How can I help you?
Uhhh.... I need a haircut. What else do you offer at this hair-cutting establishment? Watermelons? I think not. Cut my hair.

There are other reasons to walk into a barber shop....

What if you were a barber and looking for employment...

What if you were lost and that was the first store you came to and went in for directions....

What if you had to use the bathroom...

What if you just wanted to know who runs the place...

What if you wanted to know if the people in there knew where you could buy some watermelon?

Well, maybe you want them to shave your beard. Or to inquire about their prices. Or to ask where the nearest gas station is b/c your car broke down.

But its rather likely they're simply giving you the opportunity to say what kind of haircut you want. A trim, or a whole new look.

They're just being polite to make your time spent with them as enjoyable as possible, so that its more likely that you come back.

I guess they're asking what kind of hair cut you specifically want. For example, do you want a mullet? Take a lot of the business off in the front, but leave the party going on in the back.

Since chickens do not have hair, if you walk into a barber-shop, they have to ask what it is you want or how they can help you.
Just do not say "a little off the top" or who knows what would happen!

Hey,

I walked into a beauty shop and asked them if they could give me a hair cut like Elvis Presley and they just looked at my bald head dumbfounded!

NO ONE OFFERED TO HELP ME!

How about when they say take a seat? As if I would want a chair that's covered in some guys hair!

I know what you mean. I used to work in a barbershop, and I got tired of asking 'how can I help you?' So I started saying 'wtf do you want?' Now were out of business. I think it has something to do with most people's preference on how they prefer to be approached. But I can't test that theory because I thought like you and now no one will hire me.

you had better say cut my hair or you might just come out with a different color hair or a shave. you can have your hair washed and also just a trim. they really mean what they ask

You could want a shave instead of a haircut. Ya never know... or you could be asking for directions.
