If you think of bone as just the hard calcium matrix that you see in a skeleton, then you're missing most of the interesting stuff about bones!

Keep in mind, first of all, that there are many cells that PRODUCE and MAINTAIN those bones in the first place. And they aren't located anywhere strange... they're right next to that calcerous structure you think of.

There's also the marrow in your bones. This stuff produces all the blood cells in your body. Without it, you are not only incapable of respiration, but you won't have an immune system either! It's the marrow that most animals are after when they chew on bones.

Don't forget also that bones are hardly static. They change not only as you grow, but in response to stresses that are placed on them, and also to store minerals that your body needs. Bones are only like a framework of a building if the framework is constantly being modified, moved around, built up, and torn down to build other things in the building while still supporting it (no mean feat!).

All in all, your bones are doing all kinds of things all the time, far from the picture most people have of just structure or support. Yay bones!

RE:
Why bone is considered "living" tissue?

because it posesses the characteristics of other living tissues. Bone tissue cells carry out cellular respiration, they are replaced when worn out or healed when fractured (provided they are still growing), plus that's the reason you no longer have the small brittle bones you had while a baby.

as far as I know, Blood and Bone are not connective tissues. Blood is part of the respiratory/circulatory system, and bone is part of the skeleton
