Per US labor laws; a minor can be employed part-time (up to 20 hours per week) at 14. More than 20 hours per week, or Full-time (40 hrs) at 16.
This is labor law, however company policies may be more stringent, you'd have to ask the store.

you have to be at least 16, but, it is left up to each individual store manager, i have worked for wal-mart for 10 years, part of that time in personnel, our manager doesn't want to have the liability of breaking a child labor law, there are very strict things you have to abide by and lots of things you cannot do, you cannot sell cigarretes or alcohol so it's kind of an inconvenience if you were to be a cashier, a csm would have to come to your register to ring that up for you and complete the transaction, you are not allowed to operate any of the machinery and most of it is just a touch of the button, you have to be clocked out by 10 pm and not a minute later, even if it is someone elses fault you are late getting out, it still comes back on you, at our store even if you are 18 and still in highschool, they still will not hire you simply for the same reasons, but like i said, it is left up to the store manager himself

Do NOT work at Wal Mart. They allow their pharmacists to refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control.

14, with parent's permission, and only part-time.
16, otherwise.
And that's not just Wal-Mart, it's nation-wide.
