There's more credibility.
For example, if I went around talking about how great and how smart I am based off of my deeds, how do you know that I'm actually rating myself well?
The experiments I'd be conducting to "prove my greatness" may be tilted in such a way to focus on my areas of expertise, but they don't take into account areas where I'm weakest.
I may have a high opinion of myself, but other people may not think I'm anything special. That's my bias that is coloring the experiment on testing if I'm really as good as I claim to be.
For example, I use this site is to establish credibility regarding my depth of knowledge.
Rather than going around telling everyone I'm experienced, I answer questions to showcase my level of expertise and what I know so that the Asker the people voting can decide for themselves on whether I'm knowledgeable or not.
Third Party Opinions are much more reliable results than when an "biased" results than any claims that I make.
It's not foolproof. It is possible where you could still have bias because I could rig it so that only my friends are the ones going around voting for me creating another form of bias that will color the results, but assuming we're talking about normal conditions, this site is effective in helping establish one being credible when it comes to giving advice based off of the percentage of Best Answers.
The reason why I like this site is because it's really difficult to prove to people that you have experience. This Global Community takes people from all over who are grading your answers and it creates a Third Party that will rate what you say.
I could give you a list of References with my friends you could call and they'd usually have positive to things to say about me because they know me. However, this site takes random people from all over who don't know you and they're measuring your advice at face value.
This is the one site where you can literally translate real world experience into something tangible when you go through and answer questions that rely on what you know and have learned over the years as well as showcase the level of your reasoning skills and ability to analyze and solve problems.
That's a real world skill that employers are constantly seeking, which is difficult to determine from a job interview or potential business clients who don't know anything about you.
The way you answer questions and provides a snapshot on how you rationalize things is a reflection of your overall personality and your approach toward work, life, and relationships.
Because it's other people who are rating your answers and weigh the wisdom of your words, this is an example of in regards to your question of why eliminating bias is good when setting up a test.
