You meant to say, keep your e-mail address private, not "from web identity"...

Your web identity is your e-mail address and the information that is linked to it. It won't bite ya. It's good to have. It's web identy fraud that you don't want to happen.

People won't get into your e-mails., i.e. they cannot read e-mails that were sent to you by other people if you keep your password private and always close the e-mail program after working on public computer.

To prevent unwanted e-mails, you need to make sure your e-mail address is not exposed openly on any of the websites - there are automatic programs that "harvest" e-mail addresses. Also, when signing up for stuff on the web, always check the box "keep my e-mail private" or "No, I don't want to be contacted". Also, if you're using yahoo e-mail, always mark messages from people that you don't want to ever e-mail you as "spam". That way, even if they try to e-mail you, you'll never see it and will never know about it.

Keep private your real name, email address, home address, bank account number, credit/debit card numbers. DON'T give any of these to anyone unless you know that they are to be trusted. And if you use messenger, DON'T type in any of the above information in the chat window even if you're talking to friends. Is not them who you need to worry about. It's the spyware that you might have on your computer. And make sure you have some kind of spyware installed on your personal computer. If you go to www.downloads.com you can find good and free spyware and adware that you absolutely need to have on your PC. SYmantec/Norton antivirus can protect you pretty well also. Make sure you run a scan very often, at least once a week and that you have the "automatic updates" (for new virus definitions) turned on if you have Symantes. If the program doesn't give you an option to have the automatic update on than just check for updates very often, every few days.
