I am a junior in high school and in the 11th grade you have to take a test to tell weather you graduate or not. ( i think its VERY stupid) if you dont pass the test the first time you get to take it at least 2 more times, but anyways bush is passing a law that says if you don't pass the test the first time you don't get your diploma, you only get a certificate of completion and without a diploma you can't get a job or go to college. And another one he is trying to pass is that you can't get a job with your GED so you fail that test and drop out if school to get a GED it want mean anything. He really sucks. Why is he worring about doing all this with the school when he has cause all this drama in america. He need to be worried about the war that he has caused and all of our troops getting killed in iraq.. Well i just want to hear what yall think about that.

The No Child Left Behind act is poorly thought out, basing a student's, a teacher's, a school's performance only on a test which -- although the schools choose -- are created by only three companies in the nation (and which Bush has stock in, at least - he had more stock in these publishing companies than oil before the 2000 election...and his daddy and grand-daddy were close, close buddies with McGraw (of McGraw-Hill) and McGraw's daddy and grand-daddy.)**
I wouldn't have done very well with the new criteria if I were in school now, although I held my own in school, and went on to college to get BA and as well as a masters. Multiple-choice tests and I just don't mix -- but give me an essay question and I can go to town. So it distresses me that this is the ONLY way that states and the government see fit to analyze if a student "understands" something. Get that student in a small group and talk to him -- then you will really see how his brain works, and what he has actually learned in his classes.
I'm not so sure about the things you say about the GED, but some of the rules might have changed -- OR -- it could be a requirement of your state, not necessarily on the federal level.
You need a place to channel your anger, and make it into something productive. Check out Students Against Tests to see how you can become pro-actively involved in protesting or -- if protesting isn't your bag -- at least in informing others about what bad policy the No Child Left Behind Act is (the web site has all kinds of information for you).
Also, if you need to get more adults to listen to you and agree with you, and they don't want to go to that website -- send them to one that gives all kinds of information about what the tests are -- and points to other great sites that are outraged about what is happening in the name of education. (I semi-maintain it -- it's got information from both sides of the testing debate) -- it's called stop high stakes tests. A test, one test, should NOT be the only criteria of how we decide who an educated person is (and if Bush had to take one of these graduation tests, I'd love to see his score!)

Well im a junior too but im the opposite. I hated Clinton... what a moron. But about Bush, I dont agree with everything but I still like him. I never heard about this test thing (him reducing it to one chance) but I guess I can understand why. Did you know that more and more high schoolers in the public school system are graduating when they shouldnt. Many colleges are forced to teach high school material just to catch them up. I do think its a little harsh having one chance but then again I dont know how hard it is. Also what type of job for a GED. Obviously someone isnt going to become the head of a major corporation with one. Of course you can still get jobs. I think that you have to go to college in order to get a good job. Most businesses require that now anyway. Apparently anyone and their mother can get a GED so why should they get the great jobs when they didnt go to college or even graduate. They can still get jobs though. Also do you keep up with Bush? I keep up with politics (really and not just believing what others say) and Bush makes some good points. He is not the greatest public speaker but that doesnt mean he is a stupid guy. And have you seen what all he does for the troops? I bet not considering a lot of media doesnt show it and no one talks about it. At least he is doing something. Would you rather pretend everything is ok as the middle east kills not only our people but their own? He is a whole lot better than Clinton who was too busy with sex scandels to do anything worth while. Clinton was a good speaker and was good at pretending things were great. I dont like to pretend, I face reality. So Bush has his ups and downs but in the end I support him.

I would say this he has no business tell you that he has to pass a test in order in order to graduate. He should be more worried about about our troups for one. the other things I think Geoge bush should be worried about is passing a law so that women can get a job young and old where there less discrimation. women in the work force get discrimed against for being over 40 and for being married and like see bush do something about that. George bush should worry about things like that rather than making a law that you pass a test, and that really sticks. You must remember it has to go through the house and the senate before it becomes law. In the meantime study hard, and I hate bush 100%.

well first of all, i dislike George Bush, but you have to keep in mind that he's only doing his job, if any other republican were in office i bet they would be doing the exact same thing, the president doesn't have as much power as you think, he's not the only one behind all this... And i believe he should be doing more than worrying "about the war" only.
anyways, that test is easy and I'm horrible at standardized tests. As long as you know basic science and reading you'll do fine. I remember i got a 58 in the science part and i still passed....

I hate George Bush but I don't see what this has to do with blacks. And though I certainly don't agree with the GED thing since that is what I did for my diploma, but you should relearn the basics of spelling, punctuation, and grammar before you complain about tests to make sure you understand the basics. Reading your run on sentences and lack of commas and paragraphs give me a headache. Take a breath, go study, and get back to us when you are more literate.

I think you have your facts wrong, to begin with. Where did you hear Bush was trying to pass such a law?
To think that a president will willfully put a large percentage of Americans in a situation to need wellfare & food stamps is ridiculous! Even if he was a bigot, Bush wouldn't put them in a position to be a drain on the country just because he hated the color of thier skin!
And are you saying Blacks aren't as smart as Whites? Otherwise, why should Blacks have any more difficulty passing the tests than Whites!

Huh? I thought they only had those kinds of tests in France. Well I live in New York and we don't have those. So just come here for your last two years. ♥ we're very nice. :)
and well to answer your question.. I do like George Bush. I am a republican. I support his decisions. and troops going to iraq.. it's a volunteer job. it's not like people are being pushed into iraq to fight.
and it's better than them coming here and bombing us all.
you don't need to hate the guy just because he might've made a few decisions that you disagree with.

Is an attempt to reverse the dumbing down of a society, which has been taking place for over 30 years.. If you can't study enough to pass that exam, how do you figure you can make the grade in college?

I did hate him. I had to stop because I found that hate was consuming me too much. I'm not saying to forget about it. Definitely vote your conscience when you have the chance. I wouldn't worry too much about the test, I'm sure you will do fine. If you are intending to go on to college, this should be the least of your concerns at this point.
