yes,Mazda 626..was a new car and i did not know how to drive it.My husband tried to teach me at a parking lot,but i was a lost cause at that point. So i took her for a spin(by myself, best way after a small lesson) to do a dry run to work.Well, the police were having a shift change (no pun intended),and guess who was in the middle.I survived.I love a stick shift ..now.It is really fun,and i miss one.My next car will be a stick shift. My 22 yr old son does not know how to drive one.
Ps,I drove her till I had to trade her..was the best car ever...

Yes, actually learned in a pick up with a three in the tree and had to drive myself to work that night. The easiest way to learn is to think of it in the simplest terms: the engine is constantly turning, whether in gear or not; to change gears, you have to "release" the gears using the clutch; while the clutch is engaged you change to the appropriate gear, releasing the clutch and engaging the engine. A to B gets you to C, and back again.

I live in England, most cars are manual. Automatics are the lazy way to drive and manuals accelerate quicker.

Yes. Both on the floor and on the column( those who driven older vehicles and pickup trucks will get this) On an unrelated note, I think front wheel drive sucks! ABS too!

I think everyone should know how to drive stick. It keeps you from ever being in a jam if a driver is needed.

No. When I was 16 my mom took me to a parking lot and tried to teach me but I didn't do very well; actually I almost crashed through the window of a church building!
