I'm looking at a video card that requires 4x/8x.

What exactly does that mean?

AGP = accelerated graphics port

AGP

(Accelerated Graphics Port) A high-speed 32-bit port from Intel for attaching a display adapter to a PC. It provides a direct connection between the card and memory, and only one AGP slot is on the motherboard. AGP was introduced as a higher-speed alternative to PCI display adapters, and it freed a PCI slot for another peripheral device. The brown AGP slot is slightly shorter than the white PCI slot and is located about an inch farther back. AGP is superseded by PCI Express.

AGP 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x

The original AGP standard (AGP 1x) provided a data transfer rate of 264 Mbytes/sec. AGP 2x is 528 Mbytes/sec. AGP 4x is 1 Gbyte/sec. AGP 8x is 2 Gbytes/sec

A video card dosent require 4x/8x It means ur motherboard supports an AGP gfx card running 4x/8x

So your looking for a graphics card which fits into an AGP slot

AGP 4X/8X identifies what type of slot the motherboard inside your computer has available for a video card. "AGP" itself stands for Accelerated Graphics Port and is superior to the original PCI video cards, yet remains inferior to the more recent PCI-Xpress video cards. The 4X-8X identifies the bandwidth that slot will handle and they are as follows;

1X - 266MBps
2X - 533MBps
4X - 1.07GBps*
8X - 2.1GBps *

Fortunately for you while the AGP 8X is not as fast as the more modern PCI-Xpress cards they are less expensive. If you search online sites to purchase a new card they will tell you in the specifications if it is 2X, 4X or 8X. The better AGP cards are the 8X as shown above. A good online source for purchasing video cards is www.pricewatch.com and you will have the ability there to search out only AGP cards, or AGP 8X. Good luck.

They are all correct and you should be happy. AGP port will give you an excellent variety of AGP Graphics cards to choose.
