Usually not, but there are exceptions. Alot of the gsxr/katanas can be placed in a different displacement frames. You can wedge a fzr600 motor into a fzr400 chassis. Ive never heard of your example, but I have heard earlier zx7s could house zx900 engines I dont know if it required any customization or if it was a bolt in.

No. Different models use different frames (they may look similar)and the engine cases are unique to each model.
