Mt. Everest. It was still the tallest, we just didn't know it. This is one of the oldest questions in the book

Everest has always been the tallest mountain (at least for the past 14,000 years or so), even if nobody knew about it. :)

For a long time people in Europe thought several of the mountains in the Alps were the tallest in the world, but they didn't know anything about the outside world, and didn't have real measurements of their height. Alaskan eskimos knew about Denali, and thought it was the biggest in the world. And so on...so the answer to your question depends on who you ask :)

Depends on how u measure it. Everest is the tallest measured from sea level. The volcano Chimborazo in Ecuador is the highest measured from the middle of the earth. This is due to the equatorial bulge.
