I think stuff involving minors should be against the law, but stuff with consenting adults involved should all be legal. (no matter how revolting or morally questionable)

Ya Beastiality should be illegal too, it's so profoundly disgusting and revolting I wasn't even thinking of it when I thought of my question.

Of course porn involving minors should be illegal. However, whatever other people want to do and film or watch, as long as it stays in the home and behind the counter is up to the individual.

Uncle Osbert:

More than likely no, you cannot draw a picture of goats raping an 8 year old. In fact you probably cannot even write a story about it. The law is perhaps a little gray, but child porn is any imagery or communication, real or created through art medium which displays "sexual acts"...(now here's the kicker) "that are for or percieved to be for a sexual purpose when viewed by a reasonable observer."

Like it or lump it the law is gray to protect children.

In my opinion, no animals, children or anything, violent or otherwise that does not appear to be consentual.

Response to Uncle Osbert:

The fundamental principle of the wording of the law is that whomever is creating the imagery:

a) cannot forsee to whose hands it will come into;
b) may escalate their fantasies to include real situations and that it simply promotes the concept that this imagery is acceptable.

I must clarify I am not taking a stance when it comes to this, I am simply pointing out what the law is (much like if anyone were to ask if I thought it moral to smoke pot versus legal to do so.)

The law does provide for certain circumstances including, medical and educational merit and artistic merit. The underlying issue is whether the image or communication promotes such behavior. It is not against the law for some one to draw pictures or write in a journal about experiences where they were the victim of pedophilia, but a pedophile cannot do the same.

On another note, there is Canadian Case Law that actually states that it is illegal for minors to make 'sexual' imagery of themselves based on the idea that minors cannot appreciate the consequenses of same or where it may end up, (This I certainly have some issue with, since if they cannot appreciate the severity, how can they be liable??)

why should any of it be illegal?

i am opposed to sexualizing children... so i think you should outlaw pedophilia. minors can't consent. neither can animals.

but pornography is imagery. can i draw a picture of 4 donkeys gang raping an 8 year old? i am very frightened of laws to protect people i have invented... how about film for example? if it's a midget over 18 is that acceptable? with pigtails?

we make a mistake when we equate art and reality. perhaps art and porn are not the same, but expression definitely includes shades of obscenity that we should be allowing.

to elysialaw... why is that acceptable to you? i understand that protecting children is the aim of the law... so what children are harmed when i create imaginary ones for the explicit purpose of sick nastiness? this is a fundamental philosophical issue we should really be addressing, not dismissing as a necessity for the protection of imaginary children.

we do the rule of law a disservice when we wield it so arbitrarily. look at this... is this now child porn because they have dressed up an 18 year old to make her 14? is it arty enough? how does one gauge exploitation?

I agree with you. Leave the minors out of it, consenting adults should be OK. But, how do we define pornography? At what point does adult entertainment become porn?

Honestly I think it all crosses the line. Here me out! The act of sex, making love is supposed to be intimate between two lovers. When did needing to get off come to watching porn? Shouldn't it be more than that?

I agree with you, although the bestiality thing in my opinion should be illegal because it infringes on the animals' rights whether or not we think its disgusting.

Porn with minors is illegal... and I agree with bestiality that is just nasty and really just anything that is too terribly gross that I would prefer to not make myself think about.
