Your tank needs time to develop the beneficial bacteria necessary to convert fish waste into harmless nitrates. Leave the tank set up for a week before adding the fish. You Also should have gravel to increase the surface area of where it is growing. You will need to change half of the water every week, Then night before, set some water out (the chlorine will evaporate), then pour half of the water into a container with the goldfish in ti. Swirl the remaining water around to suspend the particles and dump it out. Don't worry if there is still some stuff left in the water, you need to keep feeding the bacteria and a tank that is too clean is just as bad as a tank that is too dirty. Refill the tank with the old water that you saved, the goldfish and the new water you set aside the night before. For the first week that you have the goldfish feed them only two bits each once a day, then twice a day for the second week, then three times a day from the third week on. This will relieve some of the stress of your tank being new and it will not harm the fish to be on a short term diet.

I would agree that WalMart fish are not well cared for. Find a good pet store that carries fish. Their fish will be healthier and you will get better advice from the staff.

Now, second thing, a pet carrier? You need a tank with filtration (I don't recommend bowls for fish). Read up on aquarium keeping on the internet before you try again.

They aren't going to stay alive in a pet carrier for very long. You need to invest in either some sort of tank, or a bowl at the very least.

Fresh water and filtration is key to fish health.

A pet carrier? Those aren't supposed to be for fish, I think they're for lizards and such. And yes, Walmart fish are usually not cared for very well, and they usually spread disease in your tank or die. Need a fish tank for goldfish, not a bowl, and a filter. Read some fish forums on how to care for goldfish, and start a new tank.

You need a bowl or tank.Ask the store what they were feeding the fish on,maybe flakes would be better.

do you have an air filter that bubbles??? If not then get one. But make sure the bubbles aren't too strong or you'll kill them.
