Has anyone actually been successful in an "at home business"?

Question

I want to be home with my kids. My boyfried is in the Navy and his schedule is unpredictable. For me to get a full time job would not be a good idea. I live 45 minutes a way from the nearest Walmart, if that gives you any indication of my little rural town. Just getting to work would be an hour or more of driving. Every daycare place that I have called closes at 6:00. If I am running late, there was an accident on the freeway, need to work overtime... I don't have any family or friends that can help me with the kids if my man is on deployment.
Anyway, I've been looking on line about "work at home" type businesses, but there are so many and it's so confusing!! Help Me!!
