nope perk, it's not 9*8 because thats repeating handshakes twice each. its actually:
8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = X
because the don't shake more than once.
Now just solve for X. and look up if its a permutation or combination on your own. thats the easy part and you should be doing THAT part of your homework without help

If person A shakes hands with person B, is that the same as person B shaking hands with person A? I would say yes. So the 1st person shakes hands with 8 people, the 2nd person with 7 (new) people, etc. So it would be 8+7+...+1 = 8*9/2 = 36. [It's well-known that 1 + 2 + ... + n = n*(n+1)/2]

Each of nine people shakes hands with eight others; that is seventy-two people shaking hands with someone else, but remember that it takes two people to shake hands each time - we have counted each hankshake twice. That means there were one half of 72 handshakes, or 36 handshakes occurred at the meeting.

Prolly 8 times 9 =72
Unless, the shaker, shakes his own hand also which would be 9x9=81
If he shakes his booty while shaking hands...prolly like 2902423432.3094230423904234
