My garage door still works, but the lights or sockets dont. I tried the breaker, but nothing seems to be wrong with that. Everything else in the house works....what am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance

This is a brand new house, so it shouldnt be anything old. The breaker is not the problem, they are all in order. I have tried the reset buttons, but got nothing. This happened about 2 hours after plugging a fridge into an outlet in the garage. Did this short something?

The power is disconnected somewhere.

This could be a bad connection, a tripped GFCI receptacle, or a damaged wire.

What you need to do (not always easy) is trace the wire from the receptacle(s) that don't work toward the breaker until you figure out that the power loss is between point a and point b. Then examine the connections and wire between those two points.

I fixed a problem last night where a receptacle in my dads house had a weak spring connection to attach a downstream wire. When I got the cover off, the smell told me I was in the right box.

You have only two things that can be wrong, as you describe it, a bad breaker, (or you tried the wrong one) or a loose or broken wire. Turn the main switch off, take the black wire off the breaker in question, and, fasten it to a different single breaker. It is not necessary to remove the original wire form the second breaker.
Turn power back on and check the lights in the garage. If they are on, replace the old breaker. If they won't light up, replace the wire and start checking each of the receptacle boxes for a loose wire

They could have worn out. I went through that a long time ago. Go to Home Depot and buy some light switches and outlets. They come in singles, packs, and boxes. !!!!Make sure you turn the electricity off using the circut breaker!!!! Then unscrew the coverings, outlets, and switches. Simply replace the old ones with the new ones. Make sure you connect the wires to the new outlet / switch the same way they were connected to the old ones. Usually outlets and switches need to be replaced every couple of decades. Hope this helps.

ok here is what you need to do. there is a eletrical outlet somewhere on your house. this outlet may be outside or inside. it will be a gfi outlet with a reset button on it. sounds like it has tripped. when it trips it could take out power to other outlets down that circuit.go through your house and find these outlets and reset them by pushing reset button. this outlet will look like the one in your bathroom by the sink or in the kitchen.remember to check outside as well. i have some under my house

Maybe the garage has more than one circuit breaker and a different one has popped.

Could be either of those...

Call an electrician if it isn't one of those two simple fixes. Better off paying $60-$80 for a diagnostic visit than getting electrocuted.

I'd still bet on a breaker. Make sure none have tripped. They may not look obvious.
