You are far enough along that your baby would more than likely be ok- it still needs time to fine tune lung developement and gain weight and things, but if necessary, it could be born and could survive. Take a deep breath and relax. You will be ok, and your baby is going to be just fine. Good luck.

Babies as early as 24 weeks can survive. A baby born at 31 weeks would probablyhave to stay in the NICCU for a while because the lungs would not be fully developed yet. If you think you are having contractions you need to see a medical professional right away. If caught in time they can give you a shot to stop the contractions and hold off labor. The reality here is it is much more important to wait and have the baby's lungs be developed.

You know, people just can't answer the question that's getting asked. A baby's survival is dependant on a lot of things, so don't work yourself into a knot thinking that you arent doing the right thing. My son was born at 29 weeks, and he is now ten months old, and is the prettiest little boy I've seen in a while (and im not sayin that cause im his mom), and healthy too! Dont be scared to have a preemie, they will need you more than a full term baby, and you need your strength. They will try to delay labor if they can, and they will give you steriod shots to promote rapid lung develpment. My son spent 3 weeks in the hospital, and then we took him home. Good luck, and dont be afraid. If you have your baby early, and you find yourself needing to chat, mail me.

First off, CALL THE DOCTOR RIGHT NOW!! Do not let them pass you off or tell you the doctor will call you later. If necessary, go straight to the ER. The sooner they can diagnose what the problem is the sooner they can treat the problem. As many of the other ladies have said, they usually try to stop the contractions and keep you quiet for as long as possible to give the baby a better chance.
Get going! Good luck!

31 weeks is not uncommon, though the longer you can go the better. There are medications the hospital can give you to stop contractions if you are in fact in labor. Braxton-Hicks contractions can often be mistaken for the real thing, even if you've been through it a dozen times. Nowadays, though, if you do have a 31 weeker, there is a good survival rate.

well the last trimester is when the baby gains the most weight--he could weigh anywhere from 4 to 8 pounds right now. and it is safe to deliver a child from 24 weeks and up--although 24 weeks is risky a healthy baby can be born then. if this is your first child--do you know what braxton hicks contractions are--they feel like contraction but aarent and if you are having sex right now you should stop it may stimulate early labor--otherwise take it easy get off your feet stop working and try to relax and of course consult with your dr

i went into early labor twice. i went to labor and delivery and they gave me medicine to stop the contractions. unless there is no way to stop you, they will not let you have a baby that isn't at least 36 weeks.
