Use ABS piping not PVC
they do make flex-able copper/brass drain/overflow kits
what ever you use make sure it fits the tub you buy
the kits don't necessarily fit the newer/deeper tubs
and there is only one tool you need it's a key (looks kinda like a tuning fork) to screw in the drain once the the tub is in place

try HOWTODOIT.com, hammerzone or the home repair forum

You leave a lot to the imagination, is it a replacement tub, or a new one? If it is a new one I assume the drain pipes are in place, so this would apply to both. Just ask for a bathtub drain kit at the hardware, use PVC. You will have to do some measuring and cutting, but no special tools. any saw will cut PVC, channel lock pliers, screw driver, measuring tape, glue, probably a P-trap, that should do it. Follow instructions on the parts package.

If you live near a do-it-your self store like Home Depot, check with them to see if they have helpful tips.

visit your local HomeDepot or Lowe's store: they offer free classes for the do-it-yourselfer.

If you prefer not to take the class (usually held on Saturday), just bring them your list of questions and they'll be more than happy to help you.
