This link will tell you about housing, feeding and other things you need to know. Since a sugar glider is considered an exotic animal, they also have a link for you to find out if it's legal in your area.

Every time that I have seen someone try to handle a sugar glider in a pet store, it bites them. I don't think they are very social. I know that the most social and friendly rodent pet is a rat. They act just like a little dog. They pretty much come tame if you buy a baby, and anyone can handle them. They would much rather lick you than bite. People are always prejudice towards them, though, since they have an ugly tail.

Lots of things make good pets. The question is, is it the right question for you?

Yes, they are cute. But that's NOT the reason to get one (however, that's the most common reason for getting one, and thus many are sick from improper care).
Consider these brief points:

1. Sugar Gliders are nocturnal.
2. Their diet can be tricky to master, they need lots of citrus and special nectars to stay healthy.
3. They need a strong substrate in the cage to crawl on to keep their toes healthy.
4. If you don't play with them, they can become sick simply from being bored.

So, make sure you get a good house for them, it needs to be at least 6' tall by 2' wide. Make the house before you buy a glider.

Yes, they make good pets but require more maintenance than your average dog or cat. Think about it long and hard before taking the plunge.

I dont know how all of these australian animals are available over here in the USA to be honest. They are supposed to be protected species. Anyway.... I would not have a sugar glider as a pet because it is an animal that lives in trees and so needs a lot of room. Some people would disagree I suppose but then again some people think its ok for circuses to take jungle animals and transport them all over the country day in and day out. To me it's just a shame that a wild animal has to be taken out of its natural environment for peoples amusement.

Sugar gliders are fantastic pets, but you will need to put a lot of work into them to make them a good bonded pet. Their diet really isnt that hard, you just have to blend some ingredients together and freeze it, in addition to fruit, veggies and mealworms. The main thing is the time you'll have to put into it to get them to trust you - once you reach that level you're golden!

Sugar Gliders do not stink....
and they are wonderful pets.
My daughter has one her name is Gertie-Girl
and I recently bought a male--his name is "Uncle Dink"
They are precious!!

but do some research because they are not for
everyone.
