i have a older lawn boy and i just repaired the engine and the govinore (spelled wrong i kno) is very lose is there a way to tighten this because it reves the engin then it slown it down almost to a stop then it speeds up again wat do i to to tighten it up?

These Guy's don't know what your talking about. Yes you can adjust the governor vane but first see if it is still spring loaded by flicking it with your finger. if it is good there is a white or black ratchet at the bottom of it reach both index fingers behind the carb on each side and spin it to put more tension on the spring. if it is just flopping around get a new spring.

Sounds to me like the engine is starving for air or gasoline, make sure the mixture adjustment is set right. Go to the library and check in the automotive section for a small engine repair book.

Sounds to me like there is some dried fuel residue on the throttle shaft.

Buy some carburator cleaner and spray the throttle shaft and move it back and forth till it moves freely. (while the engine is OFF)

It is supposed to be loose. You should be able to move it easily with your fingers. Somethings wrong with the mixture, or dirt in the carb?

The spring is ok. that's why it doesn't completely die. I've had commercial lawnboys for 24 years.

i dont usually say this but since yuve said its old...buy a new one..and worry about repairing the other in your spare time...get a manual online
