Really once the black folk had Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown.
Who do they have now?
Nothing but the bling culture which betrays everything early hip hop was all about.

Well, blame the ghetto rappers who still raps about how his life was and shot down 5 kids and killed his grandma(that's right Eminem!) and likes to f*** strippers, all the while giving negativity to young listeners and tell them to trash white people, and getting tons of money while the only thing happen was they got maced by the mall cop.

BUT! they are some good rappers, like Ciara, Chris Brown(hopefully he will never sing about violence), Black Eyed Peas, and etc. Unfortunately, there aren't as many good rappers like these now. Hopefully, this idiocracy of music and degrading of hip-hop will stop.

Hopefully

Black music is alive but not well but the only thing is coperate America runs it and when coperate America runs it they make it the music its biach.

Why i say its alive its because Mary J puts out an album it will go straight to number one. If 50 Cent makes a single it doesnt need a lot of promotion it will go straight to number one on HOT 100, If Jay z puts out a tour it will sell out within minutes. So black music is alive.

But its not so well. All radio want to play is garbage. They dont play the new Talib Kweli songs, They dont put Common on radio, They dont air Pharohe Monch. So its not black music's fault they dont play good music and they play all the bling bling culture.

The reason why black music is suffering is because of the record labels and also the fans.Record labels would rather spent $2mill on their bugget on 50 Cent rather than Stevie Wonder.. Now thats a sad.

However black music has still got bright artists there is hope in:
1.Corrine Bailey Rae (a fantastic jazz/ soul musician)
2.Papoose an amazing poet and hip hop artist
3.Wyclef Jean, even after so long this guy is an amazing artist sorry if you dont agree.
4.Kanye West, this guy refuses to be all bling bling talk in his music and he actually focuses on real issues.
5.Keisha White and Leela James - These artists are powerhouses, they are the next Tina Tuners and Aretha in their own ways.
6.Outkast.. what more can I say

The few black artists who can be compared to Jimmy and BB King is this guy called Akil. And he is struggling. so its not the black folks its the music industry itself. It has revolutionise.

There is a lot of good black music out there but its just not on MTV and radio. Like right now concious Reggae is at its peak I really love the genre but its so underrated.

and another question "what is good with white music". the black artist cant come and do another Jimmy Hendrix because that genre has been took over.

I don't think it's strictly pertaining to African American music. We live in a highly materialistic time and age, and I've noticed the more I listed to the radio, the more I don't like it.

Everything just seems like advertisements now, and I hear these screechy emo kids complaining about absolutely nothing. And I listen to all types of music. I can honestly say I love all genres except select country music.

But there are still some rays of hope when it comes to all music: The Roots for Rap, Alicia Keys for R n B, System of a down for hard rock (they're super political as well as boss to rock out too), and the Strokes for that little bit of something else.

But it's not like you couldn't listen to Classics. I have Jimi's greatest hits, and couldn't get by with Billie Holiday. Strange fruit still makes me cry. Don't fret, as long as there's new music, there's still hope.

What went wrong with your question?! It's great, and if you don't likreit then don't listen to it!

And P.S. Not all rap today is about bling ( more of a 90's Cash Money Records type thing!) There are a lot of artists out right now with plenty of insightful things to say!

Yeah I look at Rap as pure entertainment. How can anyone take those idiots for real. None of them write their own lyrics anyway. Besides, in the videos, they rent all the cars, girls, gold, diamonds.
They're still doing alright in Jazz. How about Roy Hargrove, Andrew Hill, Branford & WYnton Marsalis.

I think it's cuz no one does anything original anymore. Notice all the music videos are So and so FEATURING Joe Blow? I think music in general these days is very weak. There are no revolutionaries anymore.

The problem isn't with the artist, it's with the consumer base. People are willing to buy anything that someone stamps their logo on.
