1/8 native is good enough for the government. However, I hope the Cherokee blood can be traced to a reservation because Cherokee on the east coast is VERY hard to prove. I honor you as a native American.

I'm German on Dad's side and 3/4 Colombian-1/4 Italian on Mom's side. But I was born in NY and raised in South America. Where am I from? Beats me. But the positive side is that I can be from wherever I want to be, depending on who I'm talking with, and the part of my heritage that identifies the best with that person... it gives me closeness. I also lived in Spain for many years, my second husband is Spanish and my first was Brazilian, so some of that heritage stayed with me... does that count? In this day and age, any cultural mix is attractive, so yes, you're Native American, Scottish, German, Russian, and English.

It depends on the tribe, look it up on google, some tribes require that you have at least one grandparent who was in their tribe. Some require closer relatives, some require even less than a grandparent.

I would suggest the google search or contacting the tribe directly.

Claiming heritage is one thing, but actually becomming a member of the Cherokee nation is another thing:

Tribal Enrollment Information--Eastern Band

o within three years of the date of birth, or
o within one year following the 18th birthday.

If you have Native American blood, I say it is enough to be considered Native American.

percentages do not matter, what is in your heart there is more to being native american than a blood line,They are a very proud people, and have believes and customs whites do not for one property ownership, the true native believes he is given stewardship over the land by the grand fathers and were really enviromentalists

It counts. I don't know the opinions of full blooded Native Americans, but if you have n.a. blood, then you do, and to claim it would not be a lie.

I think you'd be suprized to find more help with that ;than you think. There has been to much lost already . You can also get dna if you can't find help. I think you will find more help out there than you think.

You have to do geneology work and see if your family is on the tribal roles. Different tribes set their own standards as far as per centage.
