First, you multiply or divide the numbers together as if they were normal, and then add the negative sign, if necessary.
*Hint: If there is an odd number of negative signs, (i.e. -2 x 4 x -3 x -1) then the answer will be negative, but if there is an even number of negative signs (-2 x 5 x -3) then the answer will be positive.

Count the number of negative numbers in your sum. If there is an even number, then the answer will be positive; if an odd number, then the answer will be negative.

So, for example: 3 x -2 x -5 = ?

There are two negative numbers (even), so the answer is positive. Then, just do the maths on the numbers (i.e. 3x2x5 = 30). So the answer is + 30.

Another example: (3 x -4)/6 = ?

There is only one negative number (odd), so the answer is negative. Then do the maths (i.e. 3x4/6 = 12/6 = 2). so, the answer is -2.

First forget about positive or negative sign and just multiply as if you were multiplying positive numbers. Then remeber that,

+ x + = +
+ x - = -
- X - = +

Now put the sign appropriately

It is the same for division
+/+ = +
+/ - = +
-/+ = -
-/- =+

(+6) x (-3) = -18
(-6) x (+3) = -18
(-6) x (-3) = 18
6 x 3 = 18

If they are both of the same sign, the answer will be positive.
If they are of different signs, the answer will be negative.

Further examples,
(-2) x (-3) x (-4) = (+6) x (-4) = -24
(-2) x (-3) x (+4) = (+6) x (+4) = 24
(-2) x (+3) x (+4) = (-6) x (+4) = -24

I hope that you can understand this better now...

The problem is that a lot of people have probably used their calculator to help you.

Like many people have already posted: - x - = +, + x +=+ and + x - or - x + = -

the solution is this!

(+6) * (-3) = (+1) * 6 * (-1) * 3 = (+1) * (-1) * 6 * 3 =-18

Therefore!
(-1) * 18 =-18
