Hi, I'm wondering, what is the difference between a pregnancy test and a ovulation test. I know the obvious but what does an ovulation test detect? If you are pregnant, would you get a neg ovulation test?

Reason i ask is because i think i am pregnant but tests are coming back neg (i would be about 4 weeks) Preiod is over 1 week late. I have NO stress and i am NEVER late. i have all the symptoms and someone suggested that i might be ovulating so i took a test and it said i wasn't.

I believe each test checks for a hormone, but it's a different hormone in each case. With an ovulation predictor, it's looking for a surge in luteinizing hormone (LH,) which indicates that the egg is about to be released. A pregnancy test detects human chorionic gonadotropin (hcg,) which is released by the embryo after implantation.

Ovulation test shows positive when the egg is ready to be fertilized. Pregnancy test shows when an egg IS fertilized.

I have a friend that actually had a + ovulation test when she was already pregnant, and didn't realize it.
