I can't access the website I need for school and I was wondering if there was a way to get around the firewall my company has that blocks certain websites.

If your company allows you to access the internet with their computers then you can have your system administrator set it up for you to access the site you need...

Most companies do not want their employees getting onto the internet during work hours and may have spyware installed to track your access to the internet...

If you violate their trust, most companies will fire you on the first violation...

I used to have a job looking for violators... either installing games or going to unauthorized web sites... each one that I caught was fired the next day.

Well, the network admin should be able to turn off the firewall for your port. Beyond that, you might want to set up a proxy tunnel through the firewall. However, most people don't appreciate that work and can get you fired.

Firewalls do not typically block URLs. They are used to block types of traffic by utilizing a complex set of rules that allow or disallow protocols and ports. Websites are blocked by proxy servers and web filtering applications and typically, there is no way around.

try to remove the proxy settings in internet explorer. lazy admins will a) not prevent this, and b) not block destination port 80 on the firewall. if this doesn't work, you could try to manually set your ip address to something in the same subnet that a) doesn't respond to a ping and b) that is really high or really low in the subnet, sometimes these will be exempt in the firewall and or proxy.

do this stuff at your own risk.

You can't do that, not unless you have Administrative Privileges. And you don't enjoy that right to use your company's property for personal matters, unless they grant you permission for so. You'll be in deep trouble if in case your company's server malfunctions due to a virus that gets in after you manipulate/turn-off its security firewalls.
