I was wondering I have been told by many people that the heartbeat count can tell you the sex of the baby. I was wondering if this was true for any of you and if so what was the heartbeat count and what did you have. For those of you who want to know I am about 14 weeks pregnant. Also when did you feel movement with your first?

All my children 2 girls and 1 boy had about the same fetal heartrate within 5-10 beats a minute at each stage about 140 (normal is between 120 and 160 per minute)... I believe that's an "Old Wives Tale"

As to movement I felt them all move between 13-15 weeks with them all with movement increasing up until about 2 days before delivery.. All of my children seemed to quiet down a bit just prior to the onset of labor as if they were preparing for the work ahead...

So instead of a wrestling match inside most of the day it was a few kicks 7-8 times a day...

Addition

The first movements feel like flutters you can not feel them externally the movements feel alot like gas at first but there is no pain just the fluttery bubbly feeling...

Fetal heart rate has no bearing on sex of the baby
Your babies heart rate starts out really fast early in the piece (over 200) and then slowly goes down as the brain matures to about 110 by 42 weeks (if you are pregnant that long, god forbid)
When the baby moves the heart rate will go up and then back down again, same as if you eat sugar or a meal.

Fetal movememt varies from person to person and generally it has a lot to do with it being your first or not. Most women feel their first later than their subsequent kids. The location of the placenta ie at the front can also delay movement but most women feel it by the mid to late 20s of their pregnancy (weeks)

If it is a girl the heartbeat is supposted to be faster than if it is a boy. With my first this was true it was a faster heartbeat and I had my baby girl but we knew for sure it was a girl by then. I felt her move for the first time in my sixth month. I am pregnant again and 34 weeks along. This time the baby won't let us sneak a peek at its gender but it does have a slower heartbeat then my last. Who knows if it is true or not but it is fun to guess. Good Luck.

I felt the first movements around 16 weeks. Telling the gender of your baby by heartbeat counts is a myth. I'm now 30 weeks pregnant and from 6 weeks my babies heart beat has been consistent around 140. Congratulations on your pregnancy

The fetal heartrate count is not an indication of the gender of the baby. I tried to look it up on the internet when I was pregnant because I wanted to know, and the only thing that they say is that one sex seemed to have a higher heartrate during labor than the other. However, my son's heartrate was generally anywhere between 155-160 bpm.

I felt his first movement at 20 weeks. It felt like gas bubbles or popcorn popping inside my stomach. It was the funniest feeling that I ever had!

When my daughter was expecting the doctor checked the baby's heartbeat and found it to be 150 bpm. He told her that a males beat at between 120 & 140 the girls are 140 & 160 and sure enough she had a beautiful baby girl. With my first baby I felt movement at around 4 months and my second at 3 months.

The old wive's tale is the higher the heartbeat that you are having a girl, but that has been proven to be false.
