I'm a very big fan of a genre known as power metal. Talented musicly, I find this style of music is very over looked. I'm not dumb, and I understand opinion and taste, but how is something with a 3 chord guitar riff, and a simple drumb line, with pourly written lyrics selling million of albums, while these musicians who put the soul and heart, not only in their lyrics but their music as well so over looked? Even classical music, which holds so much talent is pourly looked at by the gerenal public. Why is this poppy, mindless music so highly looked at?

What an oxymoron! (look it up) "pourly written lyrics"
your not dumb but you cannot spell (or use the spell checker provided here)
Its about personal taste, yes ok some rubbish does get promoted by record companies but does it matter? I've always liked the music I like and if its not mainstream , even better. just feel superior that you like music that to you is good and is not liked by the majority. There are simple songs with great hooks that get people dancing/singing etc and are accessible, and there are wonderful complicated classical pieces too.

Classical music - that's the part I know about, so I'll address that ok?
Classical music IS popular music. There are millions of fans of it worldwide. Last time I went to an outdoor Symphony orchestra concert, there were probably 8-10,000 people there! And every one of them was SOOOO quiet while the orchestra performed. What a lovely sight it was to look up the hill, and see so many candle lit for dinners and snacks that the audience brought. This was at Blossom Music Center in Ohio. And yes! Wine and spirits ALLOWED- unlike rock concerts, where they aren't. This crowd cleans up after itself, treats the grounds with respect, and doesn't want to mosh or slide in the mud :))
In general, the more intelligent the music, the less people will listen to it, however. Look at the Bell curve of intelligence!

This is just my opinion, but I think the blanket answer is because 14 year old girls rule the world.

The record companies pay commercial radio stations to play what they want you to hear, not what they think you are interested in. They are marketing music to a demographic with money to spend. Fourteen year old girls rake in cash with baby-sitting jobs, etc., almost all of their income is disposable and they like to shop.

The fact is that this "talentless" music is aimed mostly at teenage girls who respond more to image than substance. I won't attribute this to all teenagers, but sometimes as teens we like talentless music before we develop mature musical tastes and can tell what is talent and what is not. It's irrelevant that you mispelled poorly.

why do you care if other people like your type of music, it's up to you who you like and up to anyone else whoever they like... and tv shows and stuff will always play popular music because they are out to make money......even if it does mean playing crappy pop music.
