Ok I am 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant and I was told that once you are over your first trimester you are basically out of the clearing for miscarriage and that as long as you are keeping healthy you should be ok. Is this true? Im just alittle curious as to this, wondering if it is proven fact or fiction.

The first trimester is over at 13 weeks, so you're two-thirds of the way there! Seems like it takes forever! I am also 8 weeks and 1 day pregnant with my first, so I am counting the weeks until I am past the first trimester.

Risk is much lower for miscarriage starting at 13 weeks, from what I've read, so I am waiting until then to tell most of my friends, my sisters, my coworkers, and my parents (and parents-in-law).

best of luck! take your prenatal vitamins, too!

Generally the first trimester is when most miscarriages occur. You are not yet out of the first trimester, because a trimester is about 13 weeks long. (A pregnancy lasts normally between 37 and 42 weeks.) Second trimester miscarriages DO happen, but they are far less common. So technically you will not be "out of the clearing" until you reach 12-13 weeks of pregnancy.

The majority of miscarriages take place in the first trimester, which is your first 3 months. You are never altogether out of the woods, but the chances of miscarriage diminish the further along in your pregnancy you are. If there are behaviors you have given up in order to ensure a healthy baby, do not resume them, they are still hazardous to your child.

You're at higher risk for a miscarriage in your first trimester, which is the first 13 weeks of your pregnancy. After that, the risk goes down but there's still no guarantee.

No: It's possible to have a miscarriage or stillbirth at any time. Maybe what they were trying to say is that the sort of genetic defects that cause an automatic, spontaneous miscarriage will generally show up by the second month? Truly, I'm not trying to bum you out, but anything can go wrong at any time. But miscarriage rates tend to be relatively low...something like 20%, according to my cousin who was a neo-natal nurse.

No, sorry to disappoint you but that is not true! You can have a Miscarriage up to 6 months! A baby has some chance to live outside the womb after that. If anything happens to the baby after that the doctors usually make you deliver it. I know a few people who this happened to. When I was pregnant I was so affriad the whole time that my son was going to die. Once I hit my 6mo mark it was a big sigh of relief.

Miscarriages are more uncommon after the first trimester but your first trimester isn't over until 14 weeks. Good luck. If you have no cramping or bleeding don't worry.

You are never "out of the clearing". Miscarriages can happen all the way up until your fifth month, and I think that sometime after that, they are called a stillbirth. As the weeks pass by after the 8th week, your chances drop, but are never completely gone...you just need to wait it out. I am 16 weeks and I am still nervous of a miscarriage! Good luck to you though...just relax and let things be.

The first trimester is not over until the end of the 13th week (According to my pregnancy book written by an OB/GYN) After the 12th week the risk goes down to about 2%, but the risk of miscarriage is there until the 20th week. After the 20th week it is considered fetal death/still birth.
