Ok. I am in my middle teens and i still suck my thumb and 'rub' a tag between my fingers. Some of my friends and family dont mind it at all, but then there are those who just absolutley HATE it and yell at me everytime i do it around them. So i would just like to see the majority of what people think on this little "issue" of mine.

PS
No my teeth are not buck. i have perfectly straight, white teeth. I had braces, and i now have a retainer--so my teeth arent going anywhere.

Of course i have the guys that just absolutley love it...but i dont do it for them, i do it to comfort myself. like then i am trying to go to sleep.

So i would just like to see how everyone thinks on the topic. So answering it would be very appreciated.

I have a lot of theories about thumb-sucking basically I believe that it is a persons way to produce natural Ritalin.

I am a mother of 8 - I suck my thumb till this day - when i do it I am at my most creative and my ability to concentrate is ten fold . Of my eight children 3 are also thumb-suckers - I find no problem with it I just don't let them do it at the table.
My other theory about thumb-sucking is that we produce extra saliva and this in turn coats the teeth so we have less cavities (I have checked this out with other thumb-suckers)
I believe people that thumb-suck are less depressed and more self sufficient because from an early age we know how to take care of our needs.
I don't have buck teeth and my husband thinks it's cute

It shouldn't matter what other people think. The only thing that matters is if you are comfortable with sucking your thumb. This has nothing to do with what other people are saying or doing. You do this to help yourself. It brings you comfort. Or by now it might just be a habit. I mean, at least it is just sucking your thumb. You aren't smoking, doing drugs, or drinking. Some people do that to comfort themselves. Don't let what others say matter. If you are okay with it than so be it.

I think that thumb suckers do it as a way to cope with stress. Like nail biting or cumpulsive habits. My daughter is 17 and she still sucks her thumb. I have tried her whole life, and a million different ways to get her to stop. In her very first sonogram picture she was clearly sucking her thumb, her Doctor pointed it out to me. I wish I knew why my daughter and other thumb suckers continue into their teens. But I think it should stop at that age. It's time to grow up and find other ways to cope with stress or soothe yourself. " Guys absolutely love it" because they are perverts.

You shouldn't suck your thumb. I might think you are intellectually challenged. You must be very insecure. It is emotionally backward at the least.

sucking your thumb is a nursing instinct. you are too old to be doing this, and some things people do are ,suck on some candy or chew gum.

You are getting older and to become older you have to put away those childish things, I know its probably a habit, but you are now becoming a young woman.
