Tights are thicker and more opaque than sheer pantyhose. There are some support pantyhose that are somewhat more opaque than the sheers. But there is a difference between tights and pantyhose.

There's a vague difference, but it's there. Pantyhose is mainly made of nylon and acceptable for formal wear. Tights were originally mostly cotton, are thicker and more opaque (making them warmer). And they're FAR different from stockings because stockings required a separate girdle in order to keep them held up, and even if they didn't, they stopped at midthigh or higher, but never cover the hips/crotch. Tights/pantyhose > stockings when it comes to sexiness, tyvm.

It's to do with the weight of the material, and how see through it is (called denier). Pantyhose are very light and see-through and used to make legs a slightly different colour but you can still see skin through. Tights are heavier (and warmer) but still usually not completely opaque (although they can be almost completely opaque) and also tights are shaped at the top to be worn under skirts/dresses so they usually have a gusset that's quite obvious on the outside. Leggings are designed as trouser substitutes, they're very opaque t-shirt weight jersey and they're styled in a way that means you can't see any gusset from the outside.

Tights are usually thicker than pantyhose. I believe pantyhose are made from nylon and tights have cotton in them.

Pantyhose are usually for a dressier outfit, they're thinner than tights. Tights are thicker and have more support. We call them tights in ballet.

Tights tend to be thicker you can't see the skin through the material. Pantyhose are usually black or skin colored and are thin material. Pantyhose are see through. Some people also call them nylons.

tights are thickern than pantyhose. They are opaque, and pantyhose are sheer. Pantyhose can offer support where as tights generally do not.

tights are slightly thicker than pantyhose. A woman might wear tights so they don't rip so easy,, provide more support, or to be warmer in the winter.

Tights are a heavier, non-see through fabric. Think of a little girl in a dress, white tights & maryjane shoes. Pantyhose are sheer & a filmy fabric.
