okay, im gonna buy a laptop mostly for music production and the usual stuff: internet surfing, occasional gaming etc.
dell 6400
15 inch glossy screen
intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz
2 gb RAM
ati radeon 128 mb
80 gb 7200 rpm hard disk
all for 1400-ish euros
OR
Apple Macbook
13 inch glossy screen
intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz
512 RAM
intel 950 video card
60 gb 5400 rpm hard drive
all for 1200 euros..
but if i do get a macbook i'd have to buy a copy of win xp (a must!), external hard disk with 7200 rpm (important for music making), and
more RAM (2 gb upgrade) which will then cost me lots more moneyyy!!!
i know all the **** about apple being the best, gimme their disadvantages for a change!
like for example..if i buy the macbook now, is there a chance that it will be obsolete in two years??apple upgrades their computers and OS frequently..
if buying the dell is more cost efficient i will stick to using windows.
thanks, any help will be very much appreciated.

I imagine by the time I've typed this there'll be a full-scale PC/Apple war going on...
The biggest disadvantage of a mac is the price - you are paying for a nice, curvy, smooth looking computer, which is almost double the price of a pc with a similar spec.
However... all the music and design folk I know have macs and would never go back (and they're not rich). Think about it, they are expensive, they crash all the time, they are incompatible with sooo many programmes, yet these people still want them!
So on that alone I'd say get a mac.


look, just face it.  is faster, portable, no 114,000 viruses on my mac, can run XP that means more games, doesn't freeze up or need to reboot itself because some dell warning comes up like: error running current software. need to shut down computer.  has better graphic simulator, get more out of iTunes,  makes it easier to work with spread sheets.
Dell...nothing
Cons
the Macbooks get really hot because of their core duo's working hard. They will not be releasing another apple until late 2008 (macbook anyway)
In my case, stick to  Dell is just unreliable because of the rediculious amount of money you have to spend if you computer gets hit by a virus and their countless virus barrier updates. If you go dell, your loss you don't know what you're missing.
Oh yeah, music creation is easier and takes half the time than on a crummy dell

ok well i myself have a 13 inch apple macbook, i love it - my only problem is not being able to get the same software on it as on a pc, however you can buy a windows os cd and install that so really i would recommend the mac (with the dell though you sort of get more bang for your buck like ram, hard drive and stuff, but i like the macbook cuz theyre cool and different) and you get automatic os and software upgrades with it anyway

apples are not the best, theyre full of ****.
nothign apple can do betttwer than windows, and there are a whole lot more programs and games out there for windows than mac. also,, mcirosoft has much better technical support, i get error messages on my mac, and when i try to look them up they dont say anything. apple's website doesnt even document all the keyboard shortcuts. microsoft documents anything, and plus 2 gb is alot better than 513 mb of ram, i have a dell with 1 gb of ram and it runs ultra fast.
and if u ever want to fix anything, windows is set up to do that, rather than have the operating system hide many things like mac does

Well either way neither of theses are gaming computers. U need a higher end graphics card to game. U should go desktop system to game. Laptops are for surfing.
go here for some examples.
