What is the Chalkboard made out of?

Chalkboards used to be made of thin sheets of slate, but now its the paint that provides the writing surface, so just about any board will serve if the correct type of paint is applied smoothly enough. My guess is they probably use particle board with the special paint. Sorry I can't be more specific.
