I, too, have very fair skin that tends to break out. I love love love bare Esscentuals. It takes some practice putting it on so you don't look like you have a mask on, but it is completely worth it. I had tried a ton of makeup before (including MAC and just about everything else sold in Sephora) and nothing has allowed my face to be clear and simply radiant. I still use other brands for mascara, eye liner and gloss...but I will not switch to any other for my foundation...BTW, the overnight powder (I totally forgot the name) is unfreakin' believable..and I was super suspicious of it. Completely hooked. Better than any cream or lotion I've used and I am 31. Lines look better, pores smaller and face rarely breaks out...and let me tell you, it DID ALL the TIME before. Devoted to it.

first of all, smitty, i'm glad you put up this post after that last one (where that girl was basically shouting to everyone that this line is a waste of money). we should look at all the sides of Bare Minerals.
a few weeks ago i bought my own starter kit, super-excited about trying it. i agree that it gives EXCELLENT coverage. BUT
1) terrible color selection (i am extremely fair with yellow undertones, and the lightest shade -- which isn't even light enough -- is wayyyyy too pink for me. the next shade up is still nowhere near light enough, and is like, yellow/orange!)
2) Bare Minerals will make oily skin shiny/oily. i have combo skin, and it made my oilier areas really bad. didn't really affect my dry areas.
3) it totally broke me out. one of the worst breakouts of my life. i've heard this from a lot of people, and it may have something to do with the Bismuth Oxide they use. some mineral makeups use it... some don't.
needless to say, bare minerals did not work for me. i ended up returning my kit to the company (2 days ago, in fact) and am now going to try every day minerals (www.everydayminerals.com), which has a much better color selection for people w/yellow undertones, 4 different fomulas of foundation (a regular one, and some other kinds for varying degrees of oily skin). it has gotten some excellent reviews on an acne site i participate in, and they will actually send you a free sample kit in the mail (you go to their site and pick several colors / several formulas yourself!). for the samples, you pay only for shipping. also, if you do decide to buy the makeup, it is literally half the price of BM foundation (EM foundation = $12 a jar).
mineral makeups have been around for years, and there are a ton of them out there -- google some keywords and you'll see. the only reason Bare Minerals is getting all this hype lately is b/c when they hired on their new CEO, Leslie Bodgett, she came up w/a brilliant idea to start those QVC infomercials. well, it worked.
like i said above, despite all this, BE offers exceptional coverage, which is why i was so disappointed it didn't work out. and believe me -- i have major redness, both from old acne scarring and from new active pimples. i can almost guarantee that the girl with the previous post was not applying her makeup properly, which is why she didn't see results (ever notice how often it happens that people are disappointed with a product, when in fact they may not have been following the instructions?)
anyway. basically if you can find a good color match, don't have oily skin, and use this makeup PROPERLY (which partly means you use the right brush for the job you're doing!), it is a fantastic option if it doesn't break you out. good luck everyone!
EDIT: i totally disagree with what the girl below me wrote, about "if you can't find a color match, then you're putting it on too heavy-handed." foundation and concealer are unique in the makeup world, b/c, unlike any other item, they require an exact -- or as close to exact as possible -- color match. this is imperative for natural coverage. i'm sure we all know people who walk around looking like they have masks on (or have looked that way ourselves). that mask effect is due to poor color matching, as well as poor blending. also, it shouldn't matter how heavily you apply your makeup (and i didn't even apply it that heavily) -- if it doesn't "disappear" into your skin, it's the wrong color, and you will look strange.

Well I cant afford the real deal, so I go with Physicians Formula mineral foundation- and
AWESOME!
I have NEVER tolerated ANY foundaiton- I get breakouts large or small regardless of how 'sensitive' and 'gentle' the products claims to be.
This is the ONLY powder I can really wear, all day... no problems! :)
I do agree with the coverage comments, though. But still, the glow is great.

I agree.if you can't find a color match, you're putting it on too heavy handed. I have fair skin and cqan use almost any color in the line as long as I apply it properly. And there is a ton of selection! It does have great coverage...I have acne scars, redness etc...but my skin is flawless and natural looking when it's on. Also,my acne has cleared up since using it, my face never feels dirty or oily any more, and it stays on...you just put a touch of mineral veil on for touch ups.

It's great if you have perfect skin, which I don't. I bought some and had to return it.
