This book was part of a required reading in American Literature class in high school. To Kill a Mockingbird is a Pulitzer Prize winning novel by author, Harper Lee. It is set in a racially-charged atmosphere of 1930's Macon County Alabama, and is a coming of age story, filled with meaningful life lessons. The story is told from the viewpoint of a young girl nicknamed "Scout", whose widowed father, Atticus Finch, a lawyer, who decides on principle, to defend a Black man accused of raping a poor white woman, Mayella Euell. --- But, the bigoted townspeople would rather lynch the accused then to let him have his day in court. The townspeople wreak havoc on the lawyer, his daughter and his son. While in the throes of the trial, the children learn an unforgettable lesson in justice, morality, and prejudice, which partly requires them overcoming an unfounded fear of thier mysterious neigbour "Boo" Radley.
This book is an excellent read, and highly recommended. Enjoy your reading, I sure did! I remember it still, and that was almost 30 years ago.

As above, it is a powerful "coming into understanding" story depicting, through Scout's eyes, the attitudes of the South and contrasting educated vs uneducated divide in those attitudes. If I had to chose ONLY one book for every child to read, this would be it, hands down.

The book is about a white man defended a black man who was wrongfully accused of a crime he didn't committ. It is also about the world seen through the eyes of a 10-year old child.
The book is great but if you are not so much into reading watch the movie. It is a great movie as well.

It's about prejudice and stereotypes in a small Southern town during the Depression, told through the eyes of a 10-year-old girl. Great plot, a lot of human interest, highly recommended!

You have to read it. It's a very good book so if you're looking for a good book (and not trying to get someone else to give you tips for your homework) then I highly recommend it.
