I have to list the procedure without mentioning stoicheometry. How would I do this??

If all of the solid zinc disappears, then zinc was the limiting reagent.

It isn't part of the question the way you asked it, but if there is some Zn left when the reaction stops, then HCl was the limiting reagent (or you happened to have stoichiometric proportions).
