This question does not have a definitive answer. You will not be able to find the answer on any website. This question is something you have to think about for yourself. And since this is a question for your journal, you have to *write* about it for yourself.

Think about people you know who are often thought of by others as "not normal." How are these people treated? Is it justified?

What does our society describe as "abnormal"? Is in the same in other societies? If there are differences, why?

Do you know of any groups within our society that specifically designate other groups as "not normal"? Are their opinions widely shared? Do yet other groups of people disagree with them?

What if there was no such thing as "normal"? What would happen?

Think. Write. Have fun with it.

I think you first have to define what you mean by normal but overall, I would say yes.

Just think about it in monetary terms. The lifestyle of someone making $20,000 a year is very different from that of someone making $2,000,000 a year but they both would generally fit the socially accepted norm.

Take marriage. A lot of people are married, a lot of people are not, the lifestyles of married people are very different from those of single people but both are generally normal`.

Same thing with kids and not kids, very different but both normal.

Does our society consider all lifestyles normal, definately not. However, the term "normal" needs something "abnormal" to compare to so when everything is considered normal, the term becomes meaningless.

I agree that in California we have a broader standard of normality than in the midwest. We have alot of cultural diversity. The rest of country is pretty right winged.

In California they seem to be, not all of it but most of it. In Texas very probably not.
