today. Its a christian run place, and they provide free tests. While there the lady asked me if she could share her views with me and I said of course, even though I am an atheist, I welcome other peoples views. At the end of her speel, she said,

"so basically people like me are going to heaven and people like you are going to hell."

I was a little shocked at how she phrased that, even though I understand it is what she believes, I think there was a better, more appropriate way to say it. What is your opinion?

Just so you know, she is wrong!!! How dare she! If it were me, I would have slapped her. I am a Christian woman and completely appalled at her behavior. Just because you had sex doesn't mean that your going to hell!! That is not good Christian practice. Those are the kind of people that give Christian's a bad name. For instance, I was engaged in December (years ago) and got pregnant in January. My fiances mother made me stop going to their church until we were married because it was 'wrong' for me to be in the church pregnant and unmarried. That is not what God is about!!! He proud and happy that a person follows his path and works toward being a good person, but I am certain that at that moment he was quite ashamed of that women.
You are not going to hell. Try not to listen to people like that. It takes all kinds.
You mentioned that 'there is a better more appropriated way' to say what she did. NO! She had no right expressing that filth. You are a good person. Remember that. You don't need to be justified by people as shameless as she is.

I think some people are a little too "holy" and they need to take a look at themselves. Everyone has a right to their own opinions and beliefs, and she is completely out of line with judging you. Even though you do not believe in God, they say that God is the only judge of a person, and if this lady is purely Christian, she should keep her mouth shut and let you do your own thing. It's none of her business. Anyway, good luck and congrats if you're pregnant!

You had the pleasure of visiting a "pregnancy crisis center."

These centers are often advertised under women's health, crisis centers, and abortion in the yellow pages. This is often very misleading as the very real purpose of these centers is not to provide information on women's health care and pregnancy options, but to counsel against abortion and serve as a front for the Christian right.

That is why you encountered the "you're going to hell and I'm not" vibe.

To answer your question, I definitely think that there's a more effective way to communicate one's values and love of God other than threatening non-believers with "you're going to hell."

Wow, she's couragous, I as a catholic/christian would never have the guts to say that to a stranger! Maybe someone I know, but not a stranger! And definately not in those words! I respect other's views on life too (as long as they don't try to push me into their's)

"so basically people like me are going to heaven and people like you are going to hell."

It's probably best not to mention your religious preferences when getting services from a place that is of a different religious preference. Not that you are at fault at all, that idiot woman is, but you can spare yourself all that by just keeping quiet about what you believe, letting them do what they do, and going home.

People like that woman give Christians a really bad name. I'm sorry that happened to you. She had NO right.

Ouch! It doesn't matter what her religious views are... no one should ever talk to another person like that. Not to mention the last way to bring anyone to religion is by insults. From what you say there must be a problem with that woman working there cause the last hing she sounds like to me is a christian.

Wow. Sorry you had to listen to that crap. It's unfortunate that so many Christians out there put out such a horrible image. That woman obviously missed all the verses in the bible that teach acceptance and love. It would have been entertaining to ask if she had ever even read the bible.
