More than likely, to take a week off work, your friend would need a note from the doctor stating they had an appendicitis and then had an appendectomy. In order to be diagnosed as having an "appendicitis", the doctor would need to see elevated white cells and/or fluid within the cecal area of the appendix. You would need to know how to accurate describe your symptoms because they are pretty easily suspectable in appendicitis (and I won't share, sorry). This can sometimes take longer than a week to fully recover from, especially if the appendix has ruptured and the wound needs to heal by secondary intention (i.e. open).

Better pick a different excuse.

You don't 'get better' from appendicitis; you go into the hospital & have it removed. They cut you open & keep you about a week, which is nowhere near long enough for the incision to heal. It took mine from April 16th until almost the end of August to completely regrow. And now I have an ugly scar, from about 3" above to about 3" below my navel. And a horrendous medical bill, without health insurance. But I prefer it to being dead.

What it feels like: a tearing, grinding, burning pain in the abdomen, about as severe as you think it could possibly be. There is a tiny relief from rolling around on the bed, but it picks up immediately when you stop moving. At the time, I characterized it as being about an '8' on an ascending scale from one to ten, but later learned that most people just call it a '10'. I wasn't prone to argue.
