It makes no sense to me. I was home schooled in Pre K, went to public in first, then 2-5 was all home school. I hated every waking moment of it. Why would parents take away the greatest joy in a child's life-- that is socialization, friends, people... I'm in 8th grade now and I just can't even stand to say the word anymore. I hated it and I wish people wouldn't do this to their kids, it's not fair on their part. Do you agree, or am I just the worst case scenario for a homeschooled kid?

Hard to say because there's many reasons why people home school. Your situation is bad because it was so uneven. The purpose of home schooling is to improve on the public school experience. That means home schooling parents are now responsible for providing the socialization, the after school activities, and friends.

I don't think its a good idea to homeschool. Kids should learn to socialize, grow, and become independant. They will become shy and isolated. I think some parents do it because they want to be "closer" to their kids. Or they just don't want to lose or let go of their children. They could be afraid that one day their children won't seem to love them anymore. And then neighbors and friends might think because the parents think they are to good to go to public school! I personally think it sux to be homeschooled!!!! : )

Sounds like you were worst case. I've known quite a few people that were home schooled, most of them are more intelligent, have more social skills and make more money than me or my friends that went to public school.

I think parents do it because they don't want the social world to get to their kids and cause them to be something they don't want them to be. I agree with you, I don't think they should be kept away from friends and socialization, because it's just going to affect them in the future. I personally think kids that are homeschooled for years turn out to be some of the wildest ones because they've been sheltered their whole life and they want to be free.

Its for those parents who had bad experiences in school, and want to save their kids from that situation, in most cases. Or, like in "Bubble Boy", the parents don't want their percious babies to become tainted by the outside (REAL) world. Yet, when (if EVEN) the child is released into a regular school enviorment, it's like being automatically blacklisted (atleast at my school...)
Im glad you broke out!

These parents often fear the influence the real world will have on their narrow sets of beliefs and superstitions, usually in reference to religion, or diet, or medical treatment, or all of the above, that they are convinced their child needs to believe as well to survive in the barbarian world they see all around them.
Any home-schooled children who actually benefit from this are rare, and are of course the exceptions that tend to prove the rule.

These days i don't think well raised children should be subjected to the slime of the school system...and if you are fortunate enough to have parents who can adequately teach you at home ...then why not ...socializing is overrated...friends will eventually stab you in the back......and people...well people ...need i say more. You will have more than enough exposure to crap in the work world...believe that !!!!!

Well you should feel lucky. But if you don't like it talk to your parents and go to a school. You won't like it tho. Most people wish they were home schooled.

That's just something stupid that parents make out when they don't feel ready to send their kids to school yet. That's so selfish.
