To balance it, you must have the same amount of atoms on each side.

Step 1: Balance Sulfur (S):
S8 + F2 = SF6. 8 S on left, 1 on right. Add an 8 on the right.
S8 + F2 = 8SF6

Step 2: Balance Florine (F):
S8 + F2 = 8SF6. 2 on left, 48 on right. Multiply F2 by 24.
S8 + 24 F2 = 8SF6.

This leaves 8 Sulfur and 48 Florine on each side.
