SBC has done it to me one last time...I hope. I want out. completely!! 33 year customer, over six months to fix a LD problem. I could receive but not call out. They didn't fix it at all.
I am comparing pricing.. DSL vs. CABLE and SBC home phone vs Tmobile phone. On a fixed income..Tanxs!

I have a TMobile phone and a cable modem through the cable company. I don't have a beef with my local phone company, but I find that my cellphone costs less than basic local phone service, and my cable modem is faster and more reliable. When I do have problems, the cable technician can fix it in one visit, and TMobile has awesome customer service. The telephone company has more less-expensive packages with DSL, but I chose cable because I do not want to pay for a landline phone that I will not use.

You may use your cell phone as your main phone, not a problem. Keep an analog land line plugged in for 911 use at your house. It doesn't cost anything to have that service available. At that point, you are subject to the whims of your Cellular service as far as connectivity and calling goes. I have ATT for landline service (used to be SBC) and I have limited income and just use them as an emergency line with measured rate service about $6.30 a month, but you have to make less than $20,000/Yr.. I hardly ever use my landline as my cellular service is excellent where I live. I use a local company for my cable modem service, and while it's okay, it's not as nice as Comcast, but at least it's cheap and fast enough. Good Luck! You can also make phone calls for free over your PC with SKYPE.
