Oh dear, I am a big coward and not much of a risk taker. I admire men and wonder how they are able to go into battle. I'm glad to be a woman and not have to.
This will sound so puny and infantile in comparison, but my most courageous exploits have been in matters of the heart and soul. Without going into all the gory details I will just say that my deepest wounds came when I was young. When I grew into a woman I had to risk opening my heart and being vulnerable to the same pain once again. It was very difficult but I did it. Happy ending? No. My heart got crushed again and this time I retreated into a deep black hole. I had to work very hard to climb out of that pit. I had to see and remember things that cut like a knife, I cried rivers of tear; I raged; I went 3 steps forward and 2 steps back until I wanted to die. I got knocked back into the pit by the very people I trusted to help me. But I didn't give up and I made it out. And now, maybe it's just pure stubbornness on my part, but I keep putting my mangled heart out there because not feeling anything is worse than risking the pain.
