I am a long time science teacher and I was appalled by this person's lack of thought. It goes against all established lab procedures - not to mention health codes etc. I cannot possibly think how he is going to explain this. I can guarantee - despite being a teacher - I would be livid and looking for action had my child been in that class!
Also, to those you questioned the activity - drawing blood for science projects IS acceptable in controlled circumstances. It can be used in a variety of activities. I have done it in the past - but that was before HIV was prevalent. Now I would be very uncomfortable doing it below college age and even then only in the strictest lab setting.

Of course this so-called teacher should be fired. What kind of teacher lets students use their blood as a writing tool? This idiot probably should be sent to jail too! Am I overreacting? Because I don't think I am...XP

Absolutely. That's insane. We're not allowed to use human blood for experiments in my school, even under carefully planned and completely sterile conditions. Why in the world would he let them be so sloppy? Why would the kids go along with it? Yikes.

I have a friend who got a teacher fired... he was an English teacher and he took the kids outside, they talked about sex and drugs, and he let them smoke all the while. She reported him and he was gone quite soon after.

Definitely. I mean with all these disease going around these days and what is wrong with the school. Last I heard school stop doing anything that would put other kids around blood of others for safety reasons so you may also want to look at the school to. For showing them it is okay to stabbed your self with a needle while you are not in a medial place. Wow what a lesson. What is the name of the school so my future kids don't go there. good luck with all.

I would definitely say this teacher is ignorant and maybe they should not be teaching. That is absolutely awful. Most anyone would lose their job over such ignorance. Parents can sue, and the school should be held liable if anything disease wise should come of this!

Actually I think jail might be a better idea. This sounds like the teacher wanted to deliberately endanger the students.

The risk maybe low, but it is an unnecessary risk all the same.

Yes, the teacher made a grave mistake. However, I think a second question should be "Why did none of the students raise the question of sharing the same lancet? Surely, they are aware of the health risks of sharing a needle. And if they are not aware, why aren't they?"

Not only that, but the teacher should have his or her teaching credentials suspended. It goes against everything a science teacher should be practicing. Granted, you can allege the lancet was sterilized after each use, but even if so, it is not a safe practice to teach you students.

the student should know better and if the teacher did not provide it to him why should he be fired. it was okay for them just to suspend him for not calling on the student's attention but yes the teacher is an idiot!!!!!!!!!
