-17 - (-24)
the negatives cancel eachother out. or, what i do is skip, change change so the problem looks like this:
-17 + 24
and that would equal 7.
I know this is right. I'm a math tutor. it is NOT negative 41

Add the opposite..
so -17 - (-24) will become
-17 + 24
this equals 7

here's how i got it..
-17- -24
you add the opposite. so your going to add a positive 24.
then you have 17 negatives and 24 positives.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
write that on paper.
the minuses and pluses cancel each other out. so you can cancel out 17 pairs of negatives and positives. which leaves you with a positive 7.

It's definitely seven. I promise. Two negatives make a positive, so if you - -, then you plus. So it's minus seventeen plus 24.

have you ever heard of a calculator? As you seem like a lackadaisical person, i would like to tell you that using the latter would use considerable less energy, after all typing all those symbols on the keyboard tires your fingers out greatly, does it not?

some of the people here thinking your stupid actually answered the question wrong ...so don't mind them.. you mean -17- -24 so it becomes - 17 + 24 which is 7
