The name Greece (in Latin Graecia) according to the oldest findings comes from the word Graeci, that firstly (according to the researchers) meant a group of people derriving from a city of Viotia named Graia. The presence of a city named Graia (which in our days means old) is referred at Homer.
Graeci moved to Italy (8th centure B.C.) where they established the city under the name Kymi.
Pausanious states the opinion that probably the oldest name of the city Tanagraia (today Tanagra) was Graia.
Later on the name Greece meant took a lot of meanings which I am not sure whether they are of your interest. Should you need them kindly contact me to provide more information.
