A diaphragm is a small round piece of plastic, designed to keep sperm from penetrating it and getting through the cervix. It's fairly effective at preventing pregnancy, but usually must be left in 3 hours (from what I remember) after sex. The most common problem with the diaphragm is improper placement resulting in pregnancy. It's a good birth control method for a married or monogamous couple who is OK if there is an accident and a child is conceived, or when used with a backup method such as a spermicidal foam or gel.

The diaphragm does not protect against STDs and AIDs.

Hope this helps!

Edit: The diaphragm is NOT the female comdom, and it's nothing like it! The diaphragm has been around for a lot longer than the female condom. The female condom looks just like a male condom except that it has a semi-hard ring at both ends, instead of just one. The woman places it into her vagina, and the semi hard ring at the ends keep it into place. It works just like a male condom, except it is more expensive, and I've heard that it is a bit noisy when used. In constrast, the diaphragm is a piece of plastc shaped like a small cup about 2 inches across, that fits over the cervix like a cap. It prevents pregnancy by sealing off the end of the cervix so sperm can't get in. That's why fitting the device correctly is so important.

You should never have sex without a condom because a girl can give you herpes or some other VD and your penis can become infected. A diaphragm is something a girl inserts inside her vagina that prevents semen from entering her. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. However, a lot of girls lie about wearing one to try and trick guys - so they can get pregnant. If she had one inside of her, you could probably feel it. It's better to be safe and use a condom.

It sounds like you shouldn't be having sex yet. You should conduct more research, seek trusted counsel or speak with your physician regarding the risks associated with intercourse.

And you should NOT rely on the advice of this forum.....

ATTENTION PEOPLE:

The diaphragm is NOT a female condom.

If you've had sex with any of the women stating the diaphragm is the female condom, or works like the female condom, you are in big trouble! LOL

good luck, and ask your questions BEFORE you have intercourse, not after :)

Well first of all never trust what someone says by heart. Second a diaphram is shaped to fit up to the end of a woman's cervix to block the sperm from getting to an egg. If you were't ready for a baby or don't want one you should have use a condom, besides the fact that it prevents you from getting STD's like aids and herpes. etc. Good luck ...

A diaphram is a method of birth control that is inserted by a doctor that lasts for 3 weeks to a month. It is 99% effective against pregnancy, however it does not prevent the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases. I would go get checked if I were you cause unprotected sex is always a risk and I would take her to the doctor so she could the Day after pill cause as hard as it is to believe some girls lie and try to get impregnated.... Better to be safe than sorry!

The diaphram is the female condom but are you sure she had it in ?? thats the real question. She could be playing you . If you trust her then you have no problems , if you don't trust her , you need to go get checked for std's , pregnancy should be the last thing on your mind.. Next time you use a condom and you won't be on here asking these questions.

A diaphram will prevent pregnancy pretty accurately. It's a plastic sort of cup that covers the entrance to the cervix and prevents sperm from entering.

It doesn't do anything for std's though. Good luck

no a diaphram is ....The muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdomen. It is the main provider of inspiratory force by expanding the size of the chest cavity. The diaphragm also lowers the pressure in the conducting airways in the lungs and up through the trachea to the oropharynx to below the atmospheric level so that air from the outside can be pushed in.
that has nothing to do with any type of protection...boo just pray that she aint pregnant
