They can, but not many do. It's like asking if basketball players make a lot of money. Some do. DItty for example makes much more in clothing than he does in music.
The best paying jobs are CEO positions, but again they are hard to come by. They also average over 135 IQ which odds are you don't have. Odds are agianst anyone, not just you. You would probably be best off getting educated in a field which you will have a "marketable" skill set. Something like accounting, law, nursing, engineering. They will all assure you an above average life style. If you want to be relatively wealthy get an engineering degree, then go to law school and become a patent attorney. They are in high demand and the job will pay $150K plus a year to start.
Also when considering careers, dont look at first year salary. Ask what people are making in 5 and 10 years. You will get there faster than you can immagine.

BTW consumver debt ie. credit cards, that new car you "had" to have keep more people from financial success than anything else. "own everything you own free and clear, have no partners" !!!

I'll let you know a thing or two. I studied Consumer Math and there was something that was brought to my attention. If you put 50 dollars a week into a savings bond that has at least 7% intrest which will grow, from the time you are 21 to the time you are 61. (40 years) you will retire a million are! The thing about it is this:
Most people don't have the self controll to forget about 50$ every week! good luck

Fashion is a hard industry to break into and probably won't make you rich. You would have a better chance winning the lottery.

I do search engine optimization and make close to 100k per year and I am only 25. This is something you can learn online as not many schools teach it yet.
You could also create some sites with affiliate marketing and adsense to make some extra cash like this one www.apluslabcoats.com that I did.

major in business in college or finance that's the best way! then you'll always know how to handle the $$$ you get.
btw you can use business training for fashion also, it is a business more than an art remember.

i believe the fashion designers do actually make a good living, they make more if they are well known.
