I wouldn't alarm your daughter, wait for the appointment and see what her doctor says. The techs aren't allowed to make a diagnoses.

During my pregnancy I had ultrasounds once a week. When the technician thought there was a problem I was asked to come in the next day for a repeat ultrasound. Once they thought there were serious problems with one of my twins heart the tech said that and the doctor said no. They are healthy happy and 11 years old today. My dear friend was told her baby would have major health problems and would be born with downs syndrome. She chose to go on with her pregnancy and delivered a completely healthy happy baby girl and has another on the way. As a nurse when I assess a patient I will make small talk and not really listen to families taking mental notes to report to the MD my findings. Don't listen or worry about what a technician says wait and listen to the Doctor who went to school for at least 8 years. And also has experience beyond us.

18 wks is a tricky time for an ultrasound cause the fetus is still really small and not moving all too much. its probably curled up in that position to be comfy and is probably nothing serious. As for the heart checking, the person doing the ultrasound is required to look carefully at the heart to make sure nothing major is going on and that its developing just fine. If your doctor doesnt call in a couple days with a concern then your baby is most likely healthy....best of luck!

My dear precious lady, your ultrasound technician is never allowed to tell you if there is something wrong with the fetus. She or he only takes the ultrasound and it is normal for her to focus on the heart. The baby's position sounds pretty normal for an 18 week. Ask the doctor and he will share with you. If the lady gave you the reply that she had not been a baby curled in this position for a long time, she should be reported. She is not allowed nor does she have the credentials to discuss her opinions or findings with you. Let your physician know what she said.

If there was something really wrong they would have told you so at this appointment, it is their job to do so and your doctor will just go over their notes with you but will not know more or less then the person doing the ultrasound. But follow your gutt feeling, if they were generally bad practitioners, go for a second opinion it will make you feel better as it does sound like a weird position for a fetus at 4 and 1/2 months-Good luck and bless you all

being a mom of 2 i believe if the Dr had any concerns they would have told u before u guys left the appt. because if they thought there was a problem they would want to start right away to try and resolve the problem if any. another thing is that they baby could just be camera shy. he or she just didn't want u all looking at him. i really dint think there is anything to worry about and if there was i am almost certain that the doc would have told u asap and if I'm wrong and the doc tells u something at the next visit i would suggest changing doctors because personally i don't think that's cool to wait it out, but congratulation and good luck and try not to worry too much

Its usually clinic policy to wait until the next Drs appointment. Usually ultrasound techs arent allowed to read ultrasounds, they're supposed to do the scan only.
At my OB's office, if something serious was found on the ultrasound we would see the Dr during that visit. This is also why our ultrasounds are done right before our appointments.
More than likely, if something is wrong, the tech will not tell you.

The technician can not tell you anything. The doctor has to he knows more about what is going on. Don't alarm your daughter untill you know for sure what the problem may be. It may or may not be anything serious. You will probabley have to wait untill the next dr appt. Call your daughter;s doctor and tell the receptionist that you want to talk to the dr. If you can talk to him ask him about it. If you so not get a chance to talk to the dr then ask the receptionist if you can make the appt for an earlier date. May god be with you and your family and I hope that everything will be alright. God Bless!!!

The tech is legally not allowed to tell you anything at all. However if there was something abnormal there the doctor legally has to tell your daughter or he is at risk of losing his license. And if it is anything serious he should notify her as soon as he is aware of the problem. The fact that your daughter was sent home is a good sign. Try not to worry about the baby. If you do your daughter is sure to catch on... no matter how good of an actress you are.

The tech will give the info to the doctor for a closer look. The doctor will let you know if there is a problem
It is not abnormal for fetuses to get in all sorts of weird positions. They are, after all, floating in a big ball of water.
It is also quite normal for a tech to spend a lot of time looking at the heart. It is, after all, one of the main things they are looking for during an ultrasound.

I agree with those who say the tech can't really give you information of that nature -- that's why they are a TECH and not a DOCTOR. As long as the tech did not rush from the room, go find a doctor, drag the doctor back in, and begin wailing loudly, I would not yet be too concerned. If there is a concern, the doctor will discuss it with you. And even then, the concern might be really really minor.
Best of luck with grandbaby.
