Hi, can anyone tell me what 'Juopon tuuri' means? I've been told it's not rude at all (and I do apologise if I've been lied to) My friend was apparently singing karaoke in Finland and everyone laughed and said this phrase...

Literal translation is "drunk person's luck" and its use is almost similar to it. Like in the movies or cartoons when a drunk person is walking across the street and avoids being hit by the oncoming traffic. It is not rude. It is actually funny.

Unforunatly it's one of those things that just doesn't translate into English. I don't recommend saying it unless you are in a bar or somewhere else very informal. It's not exactly insulting, it's just not considered appropriate for places other than bars, clubs, etc.

I tried a translation site but it didnt translate joupon, tuuri translates as luck.
