Like "anything" in this life... there is no SINGULAR right answer that can apply to ALL circumstances across the board; therefore, my opinion comes with conditions or "exceptions" to the rule, shall we say.
The heart starts beating on the 21st day of pregnancy. I feel that within THIS timeframe, in "most" circumstances, abortion would not be so much the taking of a life but, more the removal of a tissue mass with the "potential" of having life. I feel that an abortion performed after this time frame should have a clear cut life or death reason.
I believe there's a special place in hell for women who repeatedly use ABORTION as their form of BIRTH CONTROL and should not be allowed to continue this practice. The only way such a thing could possibly be controlled, however, would be to have the government regulate it by using people's social security numbers: I dont like the idea of the government getting involved in yet another of our personal rights though, so that's a dead end.
Naturally, if a woman became impregnated via a rape that was not in any way her fault, (i.e. she wasn't generally known as a whore or a tease) she and her doctor should evaluate her psychological capability of dealing with the reality that the life growing within her and the subsequent life of the child will always remind her of the horror and trauma of being raped and should act accordingly.
In the case of the mother's life being in danger, I'd have to say it's a clear cut matter of saving that which is "already" born over that which has not yet been born and abortion should be unilaterally understood by both pro-lifers AND pro-choicers.
I, myself, was in a severe accident 20 years ago where I was pronounced dead at the scene, broke almost 70 bones and was in rehabilitation for almost two years before I could return to work. The doctors discovered my pregnancy during my dozens and dozens of x-rays while I was unconscious. A week later, when I came to, with somber, long faces, they informed me that I was 16 weeks pregnant. I was in shock because I was on the pill, and had never missed a period during the 16 weeks.
It was unanimously determined by the doctors that because of ALL of the circumstances,i.e., the almost certain probability of severe retardation and/or deformation due to taking the pill during the entire pregnancy, the severe accident, having all four pelvic rings and both hips broken, all the narcotic medicines that they had been pumping into my system that first week that I was unconscious and all the future medicines that would be pumped into me for the next several months, all the x-rays they had taken and the fact that I, myself, would not be able to care for the child even if it was NORMAL.... they strongly urged me to abort. I did.
One minute I was pregnant and the next I was being wheeled in to get an abortion. It all happened so fast but, I was in so much pain that they had to do it quickly so they could get me back on my morphine and once again render me unconscious for the next few weeks.
The psychological effects didn't catch up with me for almost ten years but, when they did.... it was bad. I think that anyone with a strong value system would have some sort of trauma over an abortion, even in a justifiable case as I feel mine was.
I hope you feel comfortable with whatever decision you are wrestling with.
Good luck:)

I believe in a woman's right to choose. This does not mean that I believe that everyone should get an abortion! I hate that so many anti-abortion activists think that if you believe in pro-choice that you must hate babies and life. That's just not the case. I personally don't believe a fetus has a soul until its reached a certain point. And I believe that up until that point a woman should be able to abort it if she feels that is what she should do. There are many situations in which a child should not be brought into the world, and the world is growing more dangerous by the day. Plus the adoption option is becoming worse for children because a lot of Foster parents treat them like a meal ticket and nothing else. It's not fair for them. If that system could be fixed I might have a different view on it.

I had it all writen out then deleted it all and decided to just say I'm a bigoted biased right wing freak.
Its a good thing some one DIDN'T have an abortion. I got 2 of my kids just because some one didn't want them I'm glad I got the chance to raise them. I'm glad they didn't get sucked down a sink. Why is adoption such a non-option? Why is it abort only?
Why is it no one ever talks about the aftermath of abortion? Why is that always hidden? I guess I have more questions than answers

i am against abortion altogther it is just murder if you dont want kids practise safe sex and these woman who murder like this should be ashamed of themselves and should go on the pill there is too many lifes getting wasted by these woman. when i think of all the woman out there who are trying to have kids and cant get pregnant and the other woman who murder unborn children makes me sick to the stomach if they dont want the child why dont they do the decent thing and have the child and give the child up for adoption where someone can adopt this child who want the child and give him/her a decent life

this is actually a good question. I do not belive that you should get an abortion, because you opened your legs and had sex. But say if you got raped, i would see abortion would be ok, If either you or the child would bein danger its ok,
Some people see abortion getting out of responsabilty.... Like lets say theres a teen, that wants to have unprotected sex, comes up preganet, she should have to step up the plate and care for that child.
thats how i see it anyways

I'm reluctantly pro-choice. I don't like abortions and I appeal to people not to have them. People should take responsibility and use appropriate birth control. Adoption is a much more favorable option to abortion. Since I'm a Libertarian I do support a woman's right to choose but it's the issue I feel the most uneasy about.

PRO-LIFE BABY, (all puns intended).
PRO-CHOICERS are ANTI-CHOICE.
No pro-choicer ever asks what the unborn child wants. Besides, women claim to be so intelligent, but once they are pregnant they act ignorant. Women know that sex leads to pregnancy, (even with contraceptives). If women don't want to be pregnant they should keep their legs closed.
I'm also tire of hearing so many women talk of the oppression they have gone through, but have the audacity to oppress children! If anyone should understand what the children endure, it should be those women who are constantly crying oppression.

I'm against it. What others choose to do is between them, their doctor and God, which ever one they believe in because there is only one God. Even if you don't believe in God you have to consider that it is unnatural to abort a fetus.

I am Pro-Choice.
Saying that one is Pro-abortion is no better than one calling themselves Anti-Choice (Pro-Life).
With Anti-Choicers, there is no choosing.
With Pro-Abortionists, there is no choosing.
Pro-Choice all the way.
Good question.
