I think it is normal, I had my appendix out, and boooooooy did I have diarrhoea afterwards, I could not believe it. It lasted for a few days, but then cleared up. It is probably down to the fact that she was on a drip, its just coming out of her system now. I doubt is has anything to do with the bowel being messed with. Obviously though if the diarrhoea continues, phone the hospital and ask them if it is normal, or visit your doctor.

If you are worried, try ringing the NHS helpline, they are pretty good.

I hope she gets well soon.

Appendicitis is inflammation and infection of the appendix.

The appendix is a small finger-shaped tube projecting from the large intestine near the point where it joins the small intestine. The appendix may have some immune function, but it is not an essential organ.

The reason for her stool being loose could be because she has been prescribed a liquid diet following surgery. It has been my opportunity to learn that some patients are discouraged from eating anything solid for several days following an emergency surgery. Speak with her physician about your concerns and see the sites listed below for more information on the topic of appendicitis...

Well i can not give final diagnosis. There has to be ultrasound or other tests to confirm that.

Rest depending on the type of surgery she went through i think its normal and she will have normal bowel movements restored in some time. The fact that she has diarrhea means the bowel is working but will take some time to settle down.

So dont worry and my wishes for your daughter to GET WELL SOON!!!

Post surgery consitpation is most common. Given the complications the loose bowel could signal an infection. Check her temp every 2 hours and try an anti-diarehha medication. If the issue continues for 6 hours or a fever is present even a slight one then please contact her doctor immediately. Bowel surgery and obstruction can cause Sepsis which a is fatal infection of the blood stream and internal organs and often kills quite quickly once established.

I had the exact same problem about 4 years ago and I am 44 now. It even happened on my birthday, woo hoo!

Anyway, after this type of internal surgery there could be any range of things that happen that could be considered odd but normal. Actaully, I didn't have the diarehea after my surgery and I kinda wish I did. Trying to strain for a bowl movement after your gut muscles were sliced and sewn back together really sucked!

If this continues or you really feel it isn't OK, the I strongly suggest you call the hospital and/or doctor that performed the surgery. They will be happy to answer your question and if necessary ask that you bring her in for evaluation.

Good luck and tell your daughter that "I FEEL YOUR PAIN!" and hang in there!

It can take days for a bowel that has stopped working to begin again. Both constipation or diarhhoea are not uncommon while it gets its groove back.

Bananas, rice and toast are good gentle foods to try.

My brother just had a similar surgery. If she has diarrhea the bowel seems to be working -- I suggest bananas and Gatorade, but call your doctor, they may have other instructions.

From the description given, I cannot determine what had occurred. I would get a complete summary from the surgeon. I had surgery 42 years ago for a very difficult case and survived.
